Terms and Conditions of Preferred Seats Selection (PSS)

  1. Preferred Seats offer more leg room, and are available in the emergency exit rows and other selected rows in Economy Class on flights operated by Singapore Airlines and SilkAir. These seats are sold and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
  2. The purchase price is not refundable and not transferable to any other passenger and/or flight.
  3. KrisFlyer or other frequent flyer miles will not be awarded on the amount paid for a Preferred Seat.
  4. A Preferred Seat is only assigned after full payment of the fare and Preferred Seat fees and issuance of an e-payment receipt.
  5. The option to purchase a Preferred Seat with KrisFlyer miles is only available when booking a flight on
  6. Preferred Seats are different from regular seats in these ways:
    • (i)The armrest between two Preferred Seats cannot be retracted because it is where the meal tray is stowed.
    • (ii)Some Preferred Seats next to the emergency exit door are windowless. Passengers occupying Emergency Exit (EMEX) Preferred Seats have to adhere to the flight safety guidelines of the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS). If a passenger does not meet any of these flight safety guidelines, Singapore Airlines or SilkAir may reassign the passenger to another seat before or during the journey. The EMEX Preferred Seat fees will not be refunded.
  7. A passenger occupying an EMEX Preferred Seat must:
    • (i)Be at least 15 years of age on the date of the first flight.
    • (ii)Be fully able-bodied, and capable of opening and moving quickly or reaching and passing through the emergency exit doors. Passengers with reduced mobility or any disability, whether profound or partial, and passengers using portable oxygen or any other medical equipment may not purchase or be assigned an EMEX Preferred Seat as they may endanger themselves or others in the event of an emergency.
    • (iii)Be able to follow the safety instructions in English.
    • (iv)Be in good health at the time of check-in, boarding, and during the flight.
    • (v)Not be pregnant.
    • (vi)Not be carrying an infant or using an infant seat belt. Not be directly responsible for caring for children/infants, elderly or passengers with reduced mobility.
    • (vii)Not under the influence of any intoxicating substance at check-in, boarding, and during the flight.
    • (viii)Not require an extension seat belt due to a large body size.
    • (ix)Not use the Inflight Entertainment System during aircraft taxi, take-off or landing.
      (x) Not be an unaccompanied minor.
  8. Able-bodied passengers are those who have sufficient physical dexterity, strength and mobility to evacuate the aircraft expeditiously through the emergency exit without assistance and without impeding others. They have no other responsibility or commitment to persons or objects on board, such as caring for children/infants/elderly or incapacitated passengers, which may prevent them from evacuating the aircraft expeditiously or cause them to impede others. These are some of types of passengers who will not be accepted as fully able-bodied, and may not purchase or be assigned EMEX Preferred Seats:
    • (i)Invalid, sick or infirm passengers
    • (ii)Passengers with children/infants
    • (iii)Handicapped passengers (including the blind and/or deaf)
    • (iv)Passengers who are under 15 years of age at the time of travel
    • (v)Obese passengers
    • (vi)Pregnant women
    • (vii)Frail or elderly passengers
    • (viii)Deportees or prisoners in custody
  9. Preferred Seat fees will not be refunded if a passenger changes or cancels his/her booking. Preferred Seat fees will only be refunded if:
    • (i)the flight is disrupted; or
    • (ii)the flight is cancelled; or
    • (iii)the connecting flight from an inbound and/or outbound Singapore Airlines-operated flight or SilkAir-operated flight is missed because of retiming.

    The passenger will receive a refund in the amount he/she has paid in USD or local currency equivalent. If a passenger has paid partially or entirely with KrisFlyer miles, he/she will receive a refund of the KrisFlyer miles into his/her KrisFlyer account and the amount paid by credit/debit card into the same card. All refunds will be processed in approximately 6 weeks.

    10. Singapore Airlines and SilkAir reserve the right to alter these terms and conditions, at its sole and absolute discretion, at any time with or without prior notice. Singapore Airlines and SilkAir are not liable to customers for any loss of value or benefits that may arise as a result of any such changes.
