Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, is a major transportation hub and one of the most populous cities in China, and has for centuries shaped the country’s politics, culture, and trading. Once the capital of the Kuomintang government in the 1920s, Wuhan is also the city where the Wuchang Uprising and other significant historical events took place.

Labelled as of the “Three Furnaces” of China – along with Nanjing and Chongqing – Wuhan’s weather is notoriously humid in summer, with temperatures occasionally soaring to over 35 degrees Celsius during the months of June, July and August. The best time to visit would be during spring and autumn, as the winter can be particularly harsh as well.

The city’s Hubei cuisine is characterised by its steamed dishes that feature a liberal use of peppers and spices, influences of the neighbouring Sichuan and Hunan provinces. Wuhan natives may love their noodles, but there is also a wide variety of seafood available as there are numerous lakes and rivers located within the city.
