Cool and creative, quirky yet quaint, damaged but determined; Christchurch is a city well worth taking a look at. Left shattered after the destructive earthquake of February 2011, Christchurch is battling back with an enduring and optimistic spirit. Some of the central area remains a rubble site, but things are changing fast, which makes the city a fun and fascinating place to visit.
It’s amazing what you can build out of an old shipping container - cafes, bars, restaurants – even a shopping mall. Innovative projects have been developed throughout the city to revitalise and inspire.
In keeping with its reputation as the Garden City, Christchurch has a wide expanse of parks and grassy areas – including glorious Hagley Park with its beautiful Botanic Gardens. With the pretty River Avon flowing through its heart, the city is the perfect place to get out and explore on bike or foot.
