Travelling with children
We take every step to ensure that your child's travel is safe and comfortable.
We offer special assistance for children travelling by themselves.
Throughout the journey - from check-in for the flight, to arrival at the final destination - your child is always under someone's care. This service is offered to our young passengers from 5 to under 18 years of age, if an adult aged 18 years and above is not travelling with them on the same flight and cabin class. Children under the age of 5 are not allowed to travel alone.
This service is mandatory for unaccompanied children aged 5 and under 12 years, and is optional for those aged 12 to under 18 years old.
So when your child has to travel alone, book a flight with Singapore Airlines. It is the next best thing to being there yourself.
How to apply for this service?
Once you have booked the flight(s) through your local Singapore Airlines office or travel agent, simply download and complete the "UM Handling form" on the right and contact your local Singapore Airlines office to let us know that your child requires the service. We will then make the necessary arrangements that will ensure that your child is looked after in the best possible way. If your child is travelling on a flight operated by other airlines, please contact the airline directly to find out about their policies for children travelling unaccompanied.
Pls be advised that if your child requires the service, you will not be able to make the booking through our website.
What if I do not need this service for my child?
If your child is aged 12 to under 18 years, you can choose to waive the Unaccompanied Minor service. You can make the flight booking for your child via our website, your local Singapore Airlines office or your travel agent.
Once the flight booking has been made, simply download and complete the "UM Assistance and Handling Waiver form" on the right and contact your local Singapore Airlines office to let us know that you do not require the service for your child. We will then take note of this in the booking details and let you know the procedures.
Travelling with infant or child
It is not recommended for infants to travel within the first 7 days of birth and definitely not acceptable within the first 48 hours of birth. If you are travelling alone with two infants, please contact your local Singapore Airlines office as special arrangements are required.
Child car seat
The use of booster seats is not permitted. However, you can use approved car-type child seats and FAA-approved child harness.
Approved car-type child seats may be used for a child under 3 years but not less than 6 months of age. The seat must be forward-facing and can be secured to the aircraft passenger seat by means of the aircraft safety belt. It must also be approved by a foreign airworthiness authority / government standards:
- United Kingdom (UK) Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)
- Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States of America as meeting the Technical Standard Order TSO-C100b; or seats that have two markings: "This Restraint is Certified for Use in Motor Vehicles and Aircraft" in red lettering and "This seat conforms to all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS)"
- European Safety Standard requirements of United Nations ECE Regulation 44 (UN/ECE 44)
- Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) No. 213 entitled "Child Restraint Systems" or CMVSS No. 213.1 entitled "Infant Seating and Restraint Systems"
- Australian/New Zealand design standard AS/NZS 1754 for infant car seats.
Some examples of the labels displayed on child car seat approved under one of the above standards can be found on the right of the page.
FAA-approved child harness can also be used on our flights. However, AmSafe's Child Aviation Restraint System (CAReS) child harness does not fit our Business Class seats on our A380-800 and A340-500 aircraft as well as the First and Business Class seats on our B777-300ER aircraft. You may wish to contact our Singapore Airlines office for more details.
If you are using a child car seat or a child harness, please note that the manufacturing standards and instructions must be provided to our ground staff and cabin crew for reference. The use of child car seat and child harness on board is subject to all child seat safety requirements. Both cannot be installed on seats at the emergency exit rows as well as the rows immediately before and after it.
While a limited number of bassinets (beds specifically for babies) are available onboard on a first-come, first-served basis, we recommend that you request for a bassinet at the time of booking to assure easy travel with your infant.
The dimensions of the bassinet are 768 L x 298 W x 158 H (mm). Bassinets can support a maximum weight of 14kg.
You can request for child meals on all Singapore Airlines operated flights, except those between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Please make the requests at time of booking.
General baby amenities such as diapers, disposable bibs, feeding bottles, and baby wipes are available onboard, on request. However, as we carry a limited quantity of baby amenities and in case the amenities available onboard may not fully meet your requirements, we recommend that you bring your own baby amenities.
