Indulge In 'Live' Performance Features And 'Yesteryear' Comedies On Singapore Airlines
22 September 2009

Ever wanted to soak in the pulsating action of ‘live’ concerts by popular artists such as Aaron Kwok or Sarah Brightman, or favourite groups such as Take That or The Pussycat Dolls, but never got the chance?

Or if you prefer comedies, do you wish you could bring back good old sitcoms like I Love Lucy and The Black Adder or stand-up performances by comedians such as Rowan Atkinson?

From 1 October 2009, Singapore Airlines customers can take delight in these exciting entertainment offerings via the Airline’s latest version of KrisWorld, its inflight entertainment system.  KrisWorld, available in all classes and offering more than 1000 on-demand options, is fitted on the Airline’s Boeing 777-300ER, Airbus A380, Airbus A340-500 and Airbus A330-300 aircraft.

‘Live’ concert features will be one of two thrilling additions in the “Stage Performances” category, which will kick off with recent years’ concert performances by Christina Aguilera, Barry Manilow, Take That and The Pussycat Dolls, in addition to Aaron Kwok and Sarah Brightman.  Details of these concert performances are listed in the Annex.

The other addition will be stand-up comedies, featuring performances by well-known comedy kings Rowan Atkinson and D.L. Hughley.

Said Singapore Airlines’ Senior Vice President Product & Services, Mr Yap Kim Wah, "Beyond movies, this unprecedented addition of ‘live’ concerts and stand-up comedies adds a new dimension in inflight entertainment for our customers to enjoy.”

The “Stage Performances” category will continue to feature recent operas, musicals, orchestral performances, and ballet and modern dance.  A refreshed lineup in October will include the inspiring Mendelssohn Gala 2009 orchestral performance held in Leipzig in February 2009 and Richard Strauss’ most popular opera, Der Rosenkavalier.

In addition, a new “Classic Comedies” channel in the “Comedy” category of the TV section will feature some of the best evergreen comedies from each decade, starting with The Black Adder, followed by Fawlty Towers, Friends and I Love Lucy, in addition to the current award-winning sitcoms.

The Airline’s KrisWorld inflight entertainment magazine will also take on a refreshed look come October 2009 with an improved layout and re-organised sections to make browsing a breeze.

Note to Editors:
  • The new KrisWorld offers customers an extensive variety of programmes, including more than 100 inflight movies ranging from the latest Hollywood blockbusters to international fare, more than 180 TV programmes, a library of 700 audio CDs featuring a diverse selection of music in different genres, 22 different audio broadcast programmes, interactive games and enrichment learning applications.
  • Customers on the all-Business Class A340-500 and all classes on the A330-300 can also enjoy iPod and iPhone connectivity through KrisWorld.  Singapore Airlines is the first in the world to have this unique feature in its Economy Class cabin, after it made its debut on the Airline's all-Business Class A340-500 aircraft last year.
