SIA & CAAS unveil a scale model of the A380 aircraft and A380-ready gate holdroom at Changi Airport

    Dear Valued Customer,

Morning latest: Showcasing the A380 model
In an event graced by Singapore’s Minister of State for Finance and Transport Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore’s Director-General Mr Wong Woon Liong and Singapore Airlines’ CEO Mr Chew Choon Seng, SIA & CAAS unveiled a scale Singapore Airlines A380 model in a gate holdroom newly refurbished for A380 aircraft.

The A380 model itself weighs 73 kilograms and measures 3.66 metres in length, with a 4.01-metre wingspan.

Also revealed for the first time was an enlarged A380-compatible gate holdroom with ample space and seats to accommodate greater passenger loads. A new three-armed aerobridge to access aircraft at both lower and upper decks for faster embarkation and disembarkation was also presented.

Following this morning’s event, the A380 model will be moved to a permanent display site within the Changi Airport Terminal 2 Transit Area – a perfect opportunity for visitors the world over to learn more about the aircraft and its inaugural launch with SIA. At the showcase site, information on the A380 and airport developments is available on 16 low-level translucent display panels.

Shortly after this event, a Quiz and Draw contest will be held at Changi Airport for 3 months, open to passengers visiting Singapore or in transit at Changi Airport. The Singapore Airlines A380
The delivery of Singapore Airlines’ first A380 is currently scheduled for the end of 2006. SIA currently has ten aircraft on firm order and 15 on option, each powered by four Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines. This order was announced in September 2000, and is worth an estimated US$8.6 billion, including the cost of installed engines.

The SIA A380 will seat less than 480 passengers in a three-class configuration, although Airbus had designed it to accommodate 555 seats. This translates into a more spacious and luxurious travel experience on the SIA super-jumbo aircraft for all classes. First and Raffles Class passengers in particular will experience new levels of comfort in aviation travel, which will once again raise the benchmark for the industry.
