Changes to the PPS Club Programme - Effective 1 September 2007

A. Changes to the PPS Club Programme
After careful considerations, we find that the programme, in its current form, is not equitable and cannot be sustained into the future. The changes will enable us to continue delivering good PPS Club services, while maintaining the exclusivity of the Club.

The PPS Club qualification/renewal criteria will be replaced by PPS Value, in Singapore dollars. We are moving to a value-based programme, as the Singapore dollar criterion, being a standard unit of monetary measure, is a more equitable yardstick for qualification and renewal, unlike the current PPS Club miles/sectors criteria. For instance, under the current PPS Club miles/sectors criteria, the revenue to be eligible for PPS Club membership qualification can range from about S$9,000 to more than S$30,000.

The new qualification and renewal criteria have been set at a PPS Value of S$25,000.

Simply that it is not sustainable for us to perpetuate the Solitaire PPS Club Life membership programme.

Therefore Solitaire PPS Club Life membership will be closed to new members from 1 September 2007.
Current Life members will retain their Solitaire PPS Club Life membership status.

This is to inform our members of the programme changes sufficiently ahead of time.

B. Membership qualification and renewal
If your Solitaire PPS Club membership is not renewed at the end of your current membership year, you will qualify for PPS Club membership instead for a year. You will re-qualify for Solitaire PPS Club membership once your PPS Value is S$25,000, achieved anytime during the 12 months of your PPS Club membership.

If your PPS Club membership is not renewed at the end of your current membership year, you will qualify for either KrisFlyer Elite Gold or Elite Silver membership, depending on the number of current Elite miles you have earned. Your cumulative PPS Value, which is only used to track towards Solitaire PPS Club membership, will have no application when you are not a PPS Club member.

A cumulative PPS Value of S$250,000 within five consecutive years of PPS Club membership will then be required to re-qualify for Solitaire PPS Club membership.

From 1 April 2007, you will be able to check your accrued PPS Value online at www.krisflyer.com All you need to do is login to ‘My Account’ with your membership number and PIN and click on ‘Statements’.

For PPS Club and Solitaire PPS Club members, the amount reflected online will be the PPS Value from your travel in your current membership year.

If you are a KrisFlyer member tracking towards PPS Club membership qualification, the PPS Value accrued in the last 12 months will be available for you to view.

Please click here to login.

C. PPS Value Credit
The PPS Value will be available online for you to view within two weeks of your travel.  All you have to do is login to www.krisflyer.com with your membership number and PIN, and click on ‘My Account’.

You will be able to view your PPS Value from 1 April 2007.

Please click here to login.

The PPS Value will be derived from the revenue earned by Singapore Airlines and SilkAir from your ticket(s) for travel on First and Business Class on both airlines. The value that will be credited to your account does not include various taxes, fees and surcharges.

For the majority of tickets, the amount that will be credited is reflected in the fare box* on the ticket, as shown in the example below. If your tickets are purchased outside of Singapore, your value credit will based on the amount paid in the local currency, converted to Singapore dollars, using the International Air Transport Association’s monthly rate.

The rate used will be based on IATA’s exchange rate at the month of ticketing.

Due to regulatory requirements or local market practices in some countries, notably in Asia Pacific and Europe, the amount shown in the ticket fare box is not reflective of the actual amount paid or does not reflect any fare value at all.

For tickets purchased in these countries, the PPS Value credited to members will be a fair value approximating the actual amount paid for the tickets. Please click here to view the list of countries where the exceptions would apply.

The various fees and taxes are normally collected on behalf of government agencies and are not included in the revenue earned by Singapore Airlines. These fees and taxes are therefore not included in the PPS Value credited to members.

Fuel surcharge was also not taken into consideration in determining the PPS Value for membership qualification and renewal criteria. The main consideration in excluding fuel surcharge from the PPS Value credit is because fuel surcharge is dependent on market conditions and is expected to fluctuate. By excluding this variable component, the PPS Value criteria for qualification and renewal can then be set at a fixed value.

No, the class bonus is not applicable as the PPS Value is credited based on the revenue earned by Singapore Airlines and SilkAir.

The process on claims for missing PPS Value credits remains the same as the retroactive mileage claim procedure today. Retro-claims can be submitted at www.krisflyer.com when you login to ‘My Account’ with your membership number and PIN and click on ‘Statements’ followed by ‘Retroactive Mileage Claim’.

The conversion formula is only used to convert the cumulative PPS Club miles/sectors you have earned before 1 September 2007 to a cumulative PPS Value. This cumulative PPS Value will be the higher of the two PPS Club miles and sectors converted amount. The conversion rate from PPS Club miles and sectors to PPS Value is S$0.50 per PPS Club miles and S$1,000 per PPS Club sector.

After 1 September 2007, your cumulative PPS Value will be your converted cumulative PPS Value on 1 September 2007, plus future PPS Value accrued after this date.

This conversion from cumulative PPS Club miles/sectors to cumulative PPS Value will only be applicable for PPS Club members, and will have no application for members with Solitaire PPS Club, KrisFlyer Elite or KrisFlyer tier status.

When you travel on a codeshare flight (in First or Business Class), you will accrue PPS Value only if the codeshare flight is operated by Singapore Airlines or SilkAir (that is, the flight is on a Singapore Airlines or SilkAir aircraft) and has a KrisFlyer partner airline’s flight number.

The PPS Value will only be credited for flights on the Singapore Airlines/SilkAir segments. For instance, for a Singapore-Frankfurt-Munich flight, the PPS Value will only be credited for the Singapore-Frankfurt sector, as that is the flight segment operated by Singapore Airlines.

E. Accrual and Redemption
Yes, you will continue to earn KrisFlyer miles. The changes in the PPS Club qualification and renewal criteria will not affect your KrisFlyer accrual and travel redemption.

The new PPS Value is only applicable for PPS Club membership qualification and renewal. This PPS Value is not transferable to other frequent flyer programmes and cannot be redeemed.

Your KrisFlyer account will not be affected. From 1 April 2007, you will be able to see 3 different sets of information in your account statements online - KrisFlyer miles, Elite miles and PPS Value.

You will earn KrisFlyer miles when you travel on a mileage accruable fare on Singapore Airlines or one of our partner airlines, or use the services of our non-air partners. These KrisFlyer miles can then be redeemed for award tickets on Singapore Airlines or any of our partner airlines, or for flight upgrades on Singapore Airlines, SilkAir and selected Star Alliance carriers.

Elite miles are miles earned from travels on Singapore Airlines, SilkAir and Star Alliance carriers and they are applicable for Elite tier qualification/renewal in the KrisFlyer programme only.

PPS Value will be reflected in your account when you travel First or Business Class on Singapore Airlines or SilkAir. This PPS Value will be applicable for PPS Club qualification and renewal only.

No. This is because since its inception, the PPS Club is a reward and recognition programme for our customers who travel regularly in First or Business Class on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir. This objective remains unchanged.

F. Member Privileges
Solitaire PPS Club members are welcome to use the First Class SilverKris Lounge, but only when they travel on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir. This is different from the current practice, where Solitaire PPS Club members have access to the SilverKris Lounge regardless of the airline travelled.

PPS Club members travelling on Business or Economy Class on Singapore Airlines or SilkAir are welcome to use the Business Class SilverKris Lounge. This is a change from the current practice, where PPS Club members travelling Business Class have access to the First Class SilverKris Lounge.

The SilverKris Lounges have become increasingly overcrowded during certain hours. Lounge benefits have been revised so as to provide our members and passengers who travel with us in First or Business Class an exclusive environment in which they can relax or work comfortably, before their flights.
