A bustling city of intrigue
The great pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx and the majestic River Nile are the main drawcards for visitors to Cairo. But there is much more to explore, including mosques, markets and cuisine in this multicultural, ancient city.

When to go
Cairo has a hot climate and the average temperature is in the mid 30's during May to September. April and November provide a more moderate climate, whilst December to March are the "cooler" months, with tempertaures averging 10-20 degrees Celcius.

Shopping
Cairo is full of extensive markets and bazaars where bargaining is expected. In addition, the city contains many high end shops, where bargaining can be practiced too.
Khan al Khalili is a bazaar dating back ot the 14th Century and is popular for souvenirs and people watching.
Gold and silver are popular purchases, and silver in particular can be found for competitive prices.

Cuisine
Egyptian cuisine shares many similiaries with cuisine from Mediterranean countries. Garlic, tomatoes, aubergines and lentils are popular ingredients in many dishes, and bread is an accompaniment to most meals.
