When to go - climate
Moscow's continental climate results in warm summers and long, cold winters. The temperatures in winter can drop to about -12 °C. July and August are the warmest months.

Cuisine
The city has an abundance of varied restaurants where you can enjoy Thai, Armenian, Georgian and much more. For well-priced Russian food, the chains Moo-Moo and Yolki-Palki are popular choices. Tradtional Russian fare includes many hot or cold soups, meats and porridges.

Ballet
Russia is well-known for its ballet talent, and Moscow is home to famous ballet schools. An International Ballet competition takes place in the city every four years, but shows can be viewed all year round at the numerous theatres.

Vodka
Whilst today most vodka is distilled from cereal grains, potato vodka originated in Russian in the 14th Century. Perhaps one of the most popular souvenirs for travellers to Moscow, vodka continues to have a vital place in Russian celebrations and festivities.

Shopping
Designer stores have opened in Moscow to keep up with business womens' demands. Noviy Arbat and Tverskaya ulitsa are popular shopping streets. Also recommended is Yeliseyev’s covered market, which is Moscow's most famous delicatessen shop.
Apart from vodka, traditional souvenirs include Russian dolls and fur caps.
