Sri Lanka has a tropical climate with regional variations. The period from December to March is often considered peak season on the west and south coasts (around 25–30°C / 77–86°F), while June to September is peak season in parts of the east. Shoulder season months, such as April, May, and October, see warm temperatures (around 26–31°C / 79–88°F) and a mix of sunshine and showers, offering a good balance between conditions and crowd levels. Low season generally falls in the wetter monsoon periods for each coast, when rainfall is heavier but temperatures remain warm (around 24–29°C / 75–84°F), and some travellers may find quieter beaches and attractions.

West and south coasts (December to March: peak season, April to May and October to November: shoulder season, May to September: low season on this side, around 25–30°C / 77–86°F).
