Best time to visit Vietnam

Vietnam spans several climate zones, so conditions vary between north, centre, and south. In northern cities such as Hanoi, the cool and dry period from November to March is shoulder season, with average temperatures around 17–22°C (63–72°F) and more comfortable sightseeing. From April to June and September to October, you can expect warmer weather and scattered showers across much of the country; this is often considered shoulder season too, with temperatures commonly between 24–30°C (75–86°F). In the southern regions and central coast, the hotter months from May to August are peak season, when beach destinations are popular and average temperatures rise to around 28–33°C (82–91°F). The wetter months, typically around September to December in central Vietnam and June to October in the south, can bring heavier rain and occasional storms, and are often regarded as low season, though showers are usually interspersed with brighter spells.
