Best time to visit Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has a tropical climate shaped by two monsoon patterns, so different regions are at their best at different times of year. From December to March (peak season), the south and west coasts and much of the hill country are typically dry and sunny, with average temperatures around 27°C to 30°C (81°F to 86°F) on the coast and cooler 18°C to 22°C (64°F to 72°F) in the hills. April and from September to early November (shoulder season) bring more varied weather, with warm temperatures of about 26°C to 29°C (79°F to 84°F) across much of the island, and passing showers that are often short lived. From May to August (low season) the south west monsoon brings heavier rain and some rough seas to the south and west coasts, while the east and north often stay drier and sunny, with coastal temperatures around 28°C to 32°C (82°F to 90°F).
