With the temperature still dropping as we push through the UK’s winter, it’s time to set our sights on the rest of the world for some beautiful weather. There are many great offers available on accommodation and travel, so now is a great time to check out our top-tip destinations and planning your 2018 escape.
1. Yangon, Myanmar: December is dry season in Yangon; the sun glistens on the temples and the city is brought to life. From the gilded stupas to the spruced up downtown facades, it sparkles like a coveted gem and can justly claim to be considered an equal to the likes of Luang Prabang, Hanoi and Penang; the other colonial jewels of South-east Asia.
2. Singapore: Visit the vibrant city state during the UK winter and you'll be guaranteed heat! Get inspired by Singapore's fantastic, bustling city centre and then wind down on the quieter outer islands. If the heat gets too much, you can take respite in the city’s many shopping malls with their copious shops and unbeatable restaurants.
3. Melbourne, Australia: If you are looking for somewhere to take the chill away from the winter, but you don’t want anywhere that is creeping towards the high 20s, Melbourne is a fantastic choice for a winter warmer. Set on the snaking Yarra River, you can wander through secretive laneways filled with cafes, boutiques and street art, get your heart pumping at world-class sporting events and enjoy some of the best restaurants in the country, from cheap and cheerful to Michelin-star fine dining.
4. Auckland, New Zealand: Another 'cool' contender is the City of Sails, Auckland. Elegantly weaved between the Tasman and Pacific seas it is blessed with two stunning harbours, Waitemata and Manukau. Surrounding Auckland are the vineyards, rainforests, thermal spas, regional parks and wildlife sanctuaries that, along with the many volcanic craters which dominate the skyline, make Auckland truly unique.
