Where to eat in Frankfurt - Restaurant Caravan

Restaurant Caravan

The interior of this Uzbek restaurant is inspired by the ornate caravans that once travelled the Silk Road forging new trade links. You could spend the whole mealtime quite happily just exploring all the curios adorning the walls, from old Oriental maps to antique brass trumpets. But the food is also deserving of attention. Hearty fare served in hefty portions, from traditional bowls of borsch to start through to roast lamb kebabs cooked in cast iron pots and lagman – handmade noodles with roast beef and vegetables.

Insider Tip: Don’t forget dessert. Uzbeki cuisine may not be renowned for its sweet treats, but this place does them superbly. Try The Myth of Registans: plums, apricots and walnuts in a sweet red wine sauce.

Where to eat in Frankfurt - Restaurant Sevres

Restaurant Sevres

The Grand Hotel Hessischer Hof is the opulent location for this fine dining restaurant, replete with elegant chandeliers and prize porcelain in cabinets lining the walls. The Feuillet crockery comes from the eponymous Sevres on the outskirts of Paris. The authentic French cuisine here comes served with a flourish of showmanship, with meat carved or cut into fillets at the table. It’s popular with business diners, who come for the reasonably priced three-course lunch. The champagne breakfast buffet is also an excellent way to kick-start a special occasion.

Insider Tip: Go to Jimmy’s Bar – in the basement of the hotel – for post-dinner drinks. It gets rave reviews, especially among whiskey fans.

Where to eat in Frankfurt - Leonhards

Leonhards

This place is actually a department store cafe – which may not sound exciting, but wait till you get up there. Located on the 7th floor of Galleria Kaufhof, it’s a wonderful sky lounge where you can get a good vantage point of the city. Lunch here is good, but perhaps the best value for money is the freshly prepared breakfast buffet with its delicious array of international options.

Insider Tip: If the weather allows, sit outside on the terrace where you can get some invigorating wind in your sails, and take a few souvenir snaps of the skyline while you’re at it.

Where to eat in Frankfurt - Im Herzen Afrikas

Im Herzen Afrikas

This Ethiopian restaurant offers a well rounded experience, from the excellent service to the imaginative interior and affordable menu. It’s also a great place for mixed groups of meat eaters and vegetarians as there’s a good selection of both meat and vegetable dishes. Meat lovers can enjoy dishes such as okra and lamb, whilst veggies can tuck into plates such as ful, which includes beans, peppers, feta and cumin. Mixed platters are also available. But it’s often the banana cream dessert that gets people hooked on this place.

Insider Tip: Put a different dimension on dinner and ask to be seated in the Tree House if you’re a group of three or less.
