Why visit Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka offers golden beaches, misty tea country, ancient cities, and wildlife-rich national parks on a compact island. You can experience culture, nature, and the ocean within a single journey.

Discover lively Colombo, the sacred cities of the Cultural Triangle, the hill country around Kandy and Ella, and the laid-back southern coast. Expect warm hospitality, colourful festivals, and a relaxed pace of life.

Plan your trip

Use Colombo as your main gateway, then connect by road, rail, or domestic flights to the rest of the island. Sri Lanka works well for both short beach breaks and longer, multi-stop adventures across the country.

Best time to visit Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka spans several climate zones, so the best time to visit depends on the regions you plan to explore. The main dry season on the west and south coasts, including Colombo and Galle, runs roughly from December to March (peak season), with daytime temperatures around 27 to 31 °C (81 to 88 °F) and calmer seas. April, and again from July to August, often act as shoulder season periods, when some regions experience brief showers, but many areas, including parts of the Cultural Triangle and hill country, remain pleasant with temperatures between 22 and 28 °C (72 to 82 °F). The wetter months for the southwest, typically May to June and September to November, are considered low season, yet the east coast and certain inland areas can be drier then, with temperatures from 25 to 32 °C (77 to 90 °F), making it possible to adjust your route to chase the sunshine.
