Discover Sri Lanka

Why visit Sri Lanka?

Sri Lanka offers golden beaches, ancient cities, wildlife-rich national parks, and cool highland tea country in a compact island. You can experience culture, nature, and coast all in one trip.

What to expect

Base yourself in vibrant Colombo, then explore the hill country around Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, the cultural heartlands of Anuradhapura and Sigiriya, and the relaxed southern shores of Galle and Mirissa. Distances are short but each region feels distinct.

Plan your trip

Many travellers combine Colombo with time on the south or east coast and a journey into the tea-covered hills. Sri Lanka also works well as a gateway to wider South Asia, thanks to its growing network of regional connections.

Best time to visit Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has a tropical climate shaped by two monsoon patterns, so different coasts shine at different times of the year. From December to March (peak season), the west and south coasts and much of the hill country are generally dry and sunny, with daytime temperatures around 27–30°C (81–86°F) on the coast and cooler 18–22°C (64–72°F) in the highlands. April and from July to August (shoulder season) bring warmer conditions and scattered showers, with most regions still suitable for travel if you stay flexible; temperatures range between 28–32°C (82–90°F) in many lowland areas. From May to June on the southwest and October to November across much of the island (low season), heavier rains and occasional storms are more likely, though the east coast can be pleasant with temperatures near 30°C (86°F), and lower visitor numbers mean a quieter experience.
