Best time to visit Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka's weather varies by region, but you can broadly think in terms of three travel periods. The first is the west and south coast dry period from December to March (peak season), when Colombo, Galle, and the southern beaches are typically warm and sunny, with temperatures around 27–30°C (81–86°F). The second is the shoulder months of April, and July to September (shoulder season), when some regions see brief showers but the hill country around Kandy and Nuwara Eliya is pleasantly cooler, averaging 18–22°C (64–72°F). The third is the wetter inter-monsoon periods, roughly May to June and October to November (low season), when rainfall increases in many parts of the island, but you still get warm temperatures of 26–29°C (79–84°F) and fewer crowds, especially in cultural sites inland.
