Best time to visit Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has a tropical climate shaped by two monsoon patterns, so different regions have their best conditions at different times. From December to March (peak season), the west and south coasts and much of the hill country are typically dry and sunny, with average temperatures around 27–30°C (81–86°F) on the coast and cooler 18–22°C (64–72°F) in higher towns. April, May, and November act as a shoulder season for many areas, with warm temperatures of 26–30°C (79–86°F) and some showers but fewer crowds. From June to September, the east and northeast coasts are often at their best while the southwest sees more rain, with temperatures usually 27–30°C (81–86°F) across much of the island, making this a mix of shoulder season and low season depending on region.
