For flights between Shanghai and Medan, the weight concept applies. Checked baggage allowances are: Economy Class (25kg for Lite/Value fares, 30kg for Standard/Flexi), Premium Economy Class (35kg), Business Class (40kg), and First Class (50kg. Each checked bag must not exceed 32kg. Cabin baggage allowances are: one piece up to 7kg in Economy Class and Premium Economy Class, and two pieces up to 7kg each in Business Class and First Class. Your exact allowance is shown on your e-ticket, and KrisFlyer Elite Gold and PPS Club members enjoy additional allowances.

Wi-Fi is available once the aircraft is above 10,000 feet on eligible Shanghai–Singapore and Singapore–Medan services. It is free and unlimited for KrisFlyer members; Economy Class and Premium Economy Class members should add their membership number to the booking at least 1.5 hours before departure. Non-members can purchase access plans. The service is suitable for messaging, email, and basic browsing, but does not support video streaming, video calls, or large file transfers.

On the Shanghai–Singapore sector, Economy Class offers a 32-inch seat pitch and up to 19-inch seat width, Premium Economy Class (on selected Boeing 777-300ER services) offers a 38-inch pitch and up to 20-inch width, Business Class features a fully flat bed with direct aisle access, and First Class (on Boeing 777-300ER) also provides a fully flat bed. On the Singapore–Medan sector operated by the Boeing 737-8 MAX, Economy Class offers a 32-inch pitch and up to 19-inch width, and Business Class provides a fully flat bed with direct aisle access.

Yes, Singapore Airlines provides lounge access to eligible passengers with a layover in Singapore. Your eligibility is based on your class of travel or your KrisFlyer and Star Alliance status, and it is determined by your flight leaving Singapore. Other options, like purchasing a day pass at a pay-per-use lounge, are also available.

Lounge Access Eligibility
Cabin Class: Complimentary for Suites, First, and Business Class passengers. Premium Economy and Economy travellers do not have access unless they hold eligible status.

Frequent Flyer Status: PPS Club and KrisFlyer Elite Gold (or Star Alliance Gold) members have access regardless of cabin class.

The 'Next Segment' Rule: Eligibility is based on the flight immediately departing that airport. For example, if you fly Economy from Shanghai but have a Business Class onward flight from Singapore, you get lounge access in Singapore only. In Singapore, eligible customers may be invited to The Private Room, the SilverKris Lounge (First Class), the SilverKris Lounge (Business Class), or the KrisFlyer Gold Lounge, depending on cabin and status.

Singapore Changi Airport offers extensive airside facilities, including themed gardens, rest areas, play zones, and a wide range of dining and shopping. For longer layovers, you can consider joining an official transit tour into the city, which usually requires several hours between flights. Shorter layovers are well spent exploring the terminals, freshening up, or relaxing in quiet zones or a transit hotel. Shanghai follows China Standard Time (UTC+8) and does not observe daylight saving time. Medan follows Western Indonesia Time (UTC+7) and also does not observe daylight saving time. Medan is therefore 1 hour behind Shanghai throughout the year.

Through-Check Conditions
For your bags to be sent directly to your final destination, the following general conditions must be met:

Single Itinerary: Both flight segments (Shanghai–Singapore and Singapore–Medan) must be under the same booking reference or PNR.

Layover Duration: Your connection in Singapore must be less than 24 hours. If your layover exceeds 24 hours, it is considered a stopover, and you will typically be required to collect your luggage and re-check it for your onward flight.

Partner Airlines: If your onward flight from Singapore to Medan is operated by a partner airline, Singapore Airlines has through-check agreements that usually allow your bags to be tagged to your final destination.
