Your travel insurance basics
Travel insurance by AIG is a travel insurance product design for Singapore Airlines passengers. It protects you from unexpected events during your trip which includes medical expenses, personal accident, travel inconvenience, life-style and value-add benefits.
This product is underwritten by AIG Insurance New Zealand Limited.
To be eligible for cover under the Singapore Airlines International Travel Insurance products, you must be:
- either a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand permanent resident, and
- aged under 70 years at the date of departure for your trip; and
- if you book a return travel flight itinerary - hold a ticket to return you to New Zealand that is within 180 days of the date of departure for your trip; or
- if you book a one way flight itinerary – intend to return to New Zealand on completion of the travel, unless otherwise agreed in writing by us.
Singapore Airlines International Travel Insurance by AIG is only available while booking flights on singaporeair.com
Your travel insurance benefits
For all plans, cancellation coverage begins on the date your certificate is issued.
Cover for all other sections begins when you leave your home or place of departure to start your trip and ends:
- if you book a return travel itinerary - when you return home or the Travel End date shown on the Certificate of Insurance, whichever is sooner; or
- if you book a one way travel itinerary – when you pass through immigration control at the airport of your ticketed destination or the Travel End date shown on the Certificate of Insurance, whichever is sooner.

Yes, business travel is covered subject to the terms, conditions and exclusions contained in the policy wording. For example, we will not pay for cancellation claims arising from any business commitment, financial or contractual obligation, including those of any Travelling Companion or Relative, except for Your being retrenched from Your usual full time employment in New Zealand.
No pre-existing medical conditions are excluded under the policy. You are not able to apply to have your pre-existing medical condition(s) covered.
Please note the definition of pre-existing medical condition as follows:
Pre-existing medical condition means any medical or dental condition of yours or any person on whose state of health your trip depends, which in the 30 days before you applied for insurance:
(a) required treatment, investigation (whether or not a diagnosis has been made), medication or advice from a doctor, chiropractor, physiotherapist, naturopath, psychiatrist, psychologist; or
(b) which you are aware of, or could be expected to be aware of, that may lead to a claim under this Policy.
It also means a chronic or on-going medical or dental condition.
Your enhanced COVID-19 coverage
If you are purchasing a new policy, we have amended the AIG travel insurance policy to cover certain situations pertaining to COVID-19, depending on whether you are purchasing a return trip or a one-way trip. Full terms, conditions and exclusions can be found in the Terms and Conditions (Gold or Platinum).
Key benefits for COVID-19 coverage are:
- Up to NZ $370,000 for Overseas Medical Expenses & Emergency Evacuation
- Up to NZ $20,000 for Cancellation Fee, Loss of Deposits
- Up to NZ $220 daily cash allowance for Quarantine at Destination, capped at 14 consecutive days
For one-way trips, the ONLY benefit available is Cancellation Fee, Loss of Deposits.
This policy will be available to New Zealand residents departing from New Zealand to all global destinations from 17 September 2020.
Singapore Airlines passengers who are residents of New Zealand, aged under 70 years at the date of departure and are travelling out of New Zealand for trips not exceeding 180 days will be able to purchase this policy.
The policy can be purchased along with the flight ticket through the Singapore Airlines website. Passengers can also purchase it for confirmed flight itineraries via the Manage Booking section on the Singapore Airlines website.
The policy covers any overseas trip undertaken on a flight operated by Singapore Airlines, SilkAir, or their code share partners if you purchased the ticket from Singapore Airlines or through an authorized agent of Singapore Airlines.
Singapore Airlines passengers may take up the AIG travel insurance policy starting from NZ $125 (per passenger) for a five-day trip to Singapore. The premium is automatically calculated based on the final destination and duration of the trip.
Yes, this is for passengers aged under 70 years at the date of departure.
Passengers may file a claim by following the procedures found in the claim form.
Yes, the passenger can do so via the Manage Booking section on the Singapore Airlines website. However, this option is not available if the passenger has already purchased the AIG travel insurance policy with the flight ticket before 17 September 2020.
Passengers will need to contact AIG's Customer Service Representatives for assistance on their travel insurance bookings. For New Zealand, passengers will need to email AIG at email@example.com or call AIG Customer Service Hotline at 0800 466 319.
After purchasing your policy

If you have not received your Certificate of Insurance, you can send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org or call our dedicated Customer Service Hotline 0800 466 319. Please include as much detail as possible, such as policy number (if available), full name, flight booking number, travel dates, date of purchase and e-mail address.

If you cancel your policy within 14 days of purchasing, you will receive full refund of your premium provided that no claim has arisen and your travel has not commenced.
After 14 days we will not refund any part of the premium.

Emergency assistance is provided by Travel Guard™. Our highly trained team of assistance personel (including medical professionals), are available 24 hours a day to help you with medical emergencies and other travel-related problems.
Call us from anywhere in the world on +64 (9) 359 1645. Please call reverse charge where this service is available. If this service is not available call costs incurred in contacting Travel Guard™ can be included as part of your claim. In remote areas we encourage you to test local phone services to ensure you can reach us in an emergency.
